Police appeal over‘high speed’driver near RAF base

-

POLICE are hunting the driver of a blue Mercedes seen travelling at “high speed” near an RAF base on Anglesey.

Residents living nearby have long complained of motorists driving at “stupid speeds” along a long straight road in the northwest of the island.

Officers said the Mercedes failed to stop for police near the RAF Valley. Shortly before 6pm

on March 24, it was seen speeding along Minffordd Road, which runs from the airfield to Llanfihangel-ynnhywyn.

Families have described the road as being like a “race track” and worry their children are vulnerable. Some have called for road bumps or other measures to reduce speeds on what was partly a 20mph zone even before the new default limit was introduced.

On social media, one woman said: “I live in RAF Valley where a lot of children play and there are so many people who drive far too fast down the street. It’s actually scary how fast they go.”

Another added: “There is only so much u can teach children about the dangers. Really doesn’t help when u got people doing stupid speeds.”

A third woman agreed. “Whole of the RAF (area) needs speed bumps,” she said. “Too many b***dy idiots driving too fast around the streets where our children play!”

North Wales Police (NWP) is appealing for information about the Mercedes car that failed to stop. The NWP Anglesey team said: “At around 5.50pm on

March 24th, a blue Mercedes was seen travelling at high speed along Minffordd Road in the RAF Valley area. If you witnessed the car and have any information that could assist us, or have dashcam or CCTV footage, please contact us.”

Information can be provided via the force’s website or by calling 101, quoting reference 24000283072.
