Man jailed for punching and strangling ex in ‘awful and violent’ attack
A 37-year-old man from Anglesey has been jailed after strangling and punching his ex-partner.
Karl Wayne Williams, from Aberffraw, grabbed her by the throat and strangled her until she couldn’t breathe.
In the incident, on February 3, his ex-partner tried to escape but Williams continued the attack, punching her face and legs.
Williams then strangled her again and prevented her from leaving, threatening to kill her while she screamed for help.
Williams, of Maes Llewelyn, Aberffraw, appeared at Mold Crown court on Wednesday, March 27.
At the hearing, he admitted intentional strangulation and assault causing actual bodily harm.
He was jailed for two years and four months.
Speaking afterward, Det Con
Katy Hughes of North Wales Police said: “This was an awful and violent attack which made the victim fear for her life.
“Her bravery throughout this investigation should be commended.
“It is our priority to tackle all reports of violence against women and we will continue to bring offenders to justice.
“I would urge anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse or violence to report it to us or reach out to a support agency.
We will listen to you and investigate any report fully.”
In response to violence against women and girls (VAWG), North Wales Police runs the Operation Unite campaign to bear down on the issue. Domestic violence accounts for roughly two-thirds of VAWG cases in the region but officers also enforce 10 other categories such as stalking, upskirting, revenge porn and forced marriages.
VAWG offences associated
with the night-time economy include incidents of spiking, catcalling and harassment.
Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman has said the force is committed to “eradicating” VAWG crime.
She said: “Our mission is to make North Wales the safest place in the UK to work, live and visit.
“Please be assured that any reports made to us will be treated seriously and with priority.”
