Barnsley’s Briscoe finishes in first place at Chester Zoo 10k Penistone Footpath Runner Flynn wins junior race at Sheffield 10k

RICHARD Price represente­d Great Britain at the 2023 World Triathlon Age Group Championsh­ips in Pontevedra, Spain.

The Barnsley AC member finished 17th in the over50 male category.

His overall time was 2-18-58 for the 1500m swim (25-30), 39.5k bike (1-07-19) and 10k run (39-57).

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke ran his 39th marathon at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday. His time was 2-38-18.

Barnsley AC’s Gary Briscoe finished in first place at the Chester Zoo 10k, in a time of 32-47.

In Edinburgh, Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw ran the Scottish 10k which starts and finishes at Musselburg­h Racecourse. She was seventh woman in 41-59.

Barnsley Harrier Simon Haywood was in Norway as team captain for the England and Wales prison service team at the European Prison Service Cross Country Championsh­ip.

Barnsley Harriers Jeff and Bev Clark completed 70k each at the Equinox 24-hour relay race.

Barnsley Harrier Caroline Batty was first over45 woman and 50th overall with 58-09 at The Shepley 10k.

Penistone Footpath Runner Richard Cottam was fourth overall and first over40 man at the Stanage Struggle which is a 6.5-mile fell race based out of Hathersage in the Peak District.

His team-mate Steve Standers picked up third place in the men’s over50 age category.

The John Hewitt Memorial Shelf Moor fell race acted as the latest and final round of the English Fell Running

Championsh­ips.

Penistone’s Helen Wright was seventh in the women’s over40 age category in 1-18-42 and Richard Cottam managed eighth place in the men’s over40 age category with a time of 51-14.

Damian Kilpin placed 13th in the men’s over45 age category in 54-40.

A number of Penistone runners competed in the Sheffield 10k.

First man back for the club was Daniel

Hague in 43-03. First woman back for Penistone was Jill Scrivens in 1-00-06.

Barnsley AC’s Adam Lavelle ran a season’s best and course PB of 37-04.

In the junior race, Penistone’s Flynn Rogers took first place in 6-54.

The presentati­on night for the

Trunce summer series saw a number of Penistone runners pick up series prizes.

Penistone winners were George Parr (first open man), Richard Cottam (first over40 man), Lesley Parker (first over40 woman), Barbara Haigh (first over70 woman), Ray Brown (second over70 man) Jon Hallam (third over40 man) and Helen Wright (third over40 woman).

On the ParkRun scene, there were first places for Penistone’s Suzanne McGill (Penistone) and James Fryers (Jesmond Dene).

There were second places for John Lawcock (Marple) and Tom Fryers (Storeys Field).

In terms of age-graded times, Bernice Nixon was first with 76.75 per cent followed by Tom Fryers (75.58 per cent) and Suzanne McGill (74.48 per cent).

Barnsley AC’s September ParkRun Championsh­ip took place at Rother Valley ParkRun. Chris McNicholas and Gail Colville ran overall ParkRun PBs of 18-57 and 19-59 respective­ly.

Joy Benson set a course PB of 29-45.
