Barnsley WFC continue fine start to season with cup win

BARNSLEY Women’s FC continued their fine start to the season with a 7-0 win over Solihull Moors in their League Plate.

The Reds raced into a 5-0 half-time lead at Houghton Main FC with Jodie Snelson scoring a hat-trick before the break.

The other scorers were Charlotte

Stuart, Nat Shaw, with a penalty she won, Taviah Myles and Brooke Marsden.

Manager Lois Daniels said: “Playing Solihull in the first round of the plate was an opportunit­y for us to try new things and express ourselves but also we knew we wanted to progress in this cup competitio­n.

“It was a great day all round, with another solid performanc­e without the ball, and lots to build on and lots of confidence to take from the final third entries.

“Although it was a break from league action, we’ve got a tough run ahead of us until Christmas and every goal and every clean sheet is a huge boost to our squad.

“We’ve so much quality in all areas of the pitch, and a lot of strength in depth, so we look forward to progressin­g into the next round of the cup.”

The Reds now host Norton and

Stockton on Sunday in the National League Division One North at the Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield.

They are currently top with 13 points from five games. They also visit Hull City on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Barnsley FC Women were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 3-1 home loss to lower league Ossett United. Victoria Chincharo got the goal.

They are now due to return to North East Premier League action at home to Hull United on Sunday from 2pm on the Oakwell academy pitches. They will look for a third straight league win.

Meanwhile, Dearne and District beat Eckington 10-1 in Division Two of the Sheffield and Hallamshir­e League.

Sophie Vickers scored five, Emma

Fleetwood hit a hat-trick and the other scorers were Charlotte Harris and BillieJo Haigh. Dearne visit SJR Worksop on Sunday.

Mind Over Matter won 3-2 at Pogmoor in Division Four. Mind Over Matter are due to visit Millstone on Sunday with Pogmoor at Sheffield City while Wombwell Town host Kiveton.

Penistone Church lost 8-1 at Middlewood in Division One. They host Brinsworth Whitehill on Sunday.
