Barnsley Women’s FC get home draw in first round of FA Cup after away victory

BARNSLEY Women’s FC reached the first round proper of the FA Cup after a 3-2 win at Wythenshaw­e on Sunday.

They have now been drawn at home to Liverpool Feds in the first round on November 12.

Jodie Snelson headed the Reds in front in the second minute.

Nat Watson doubled the lead on 25 minutes but the hosts netted twice in the next ten.

Nat Shaw smashed in the winner on 55 minutes then the hosts had a player sent off.

Manager Lois Daniels: “Wythenshaw­e were a lower ranked team, but had lots of quality in areas and a strong foundation to succeed and be in a much higher league in years to come.

“It was a feisty game full of grit and character – a real FA Cup game.

“I was happy to see the team’s reaction in the second half to a poor first half display for around 25 minutes.

“We look forward to hosting tier three team Liverpool Feds in the next round.”

Barnsley are now due to host

Sheffield in the Plate on Sunday at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

Daniels said: “Sheffield are also in tier four, but the Midlands League.

“We hope this is a fixture full of quality and it will hopefully see us into the next round of the plate, with it all to play for in the league, FA Cup, and the Plate.”

The Reds have won eight of their ten games in all competitio­ns so far this season, drawing once in the league and losing in the League Cup to Peterborou­gh.

They are top of the National League Division One North by three points, having collected 19 points from seven games.

Their next league game is at home to Leeds United on November 5.
