Jonson wins two regional cross country races

JONSON Hughes from Darfield has won two regional cross country events.

He won the under 17 title at the Yorkshire Championsh­ips then the Northern Championsh­ips this week.

His brothers Marshall and Sonnyboy were part the under 20 team which won a bronze medal.

Barnsley AC’s Lydia Race secured a silver medal in the over35 3000m at the British Masters Indoor Open Championsh­ip in Sheffield.

She set a PB of 10-47.19.

Rod Scholes finished as first over75 man in the 800m with a time of 3-23.74 and second in the 3000m with 15-05.18.

At the Tough Meltham 10k, Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw finished as second woman in a course PB of 41-57.

Mark Wood’s time was 50-48.

Suzanne McGill was first woman back for Penistone Footpath Runners and also picked up first place in the women’s over45 age category. Her time was 47-58.

Barabara Haigh won the women’s over75 age category. Martin Ball completed the trio of Penistone winners, grabbing first place in the men’s over50 age category in an impressive 39-40. Other Penistone runners making the podium in their age groups were Bill Phillips (second over75 man) and Keith Gordon (third over75 man).

Andrew Heppenstal­l was first back for the club in 12th place overall and finished just one place outside the medals in the men’s over40 age category.

His time was 37-33.

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke finished sixth at the long-standing Ferriby 10, a ten-mile road race hosted by City of Hull AC. He knocked 35 seconds off his course PB with a time of 53-51. Naomi Drakeford took more than a minute off her best from the Yorkshire ten-mile last year to finish as second woman in 60-19.

Penistone’s Rory O’Sullivan completed the Stockport Daffodil 10k in a PB of 49-32.

Four Penistone runners completed the Tigger Tor fell race. First back was Gareth Irvine in 90th place with 1-2452. First woman back for the club was Lesley Parker in 1-36-28.

Penistone’s Steve Sanders competed in the Birkrigg Common fell race near Ulveston. He placed 46th in a field of 148 runners with a time of 27-32.

Barnsley AC’s Ryan Pleasants was first finisher at Barnsley ParkRun with a time of 17-59. Gail Colville set a new over55 course record at Whitby’s Cinder Track ParkRun. Her time was 20-32.

Penistone held their monthly ‘ParkRun on tour’ with a trip to the Rother Valley ParkRun. First back in 31st place was Phil Hinchliffe in 20-11, and first woman back was Emma Stead in 122nd place in 24-56. George Parr was first at Penistone ParkRun and Flynn Rogers was first at Hillsborou­gh Junior ParkRun.

Jackie Howsham ran their 250th. Agegraded ParkRun runners of the week were Dawn Broom (76.75 per cent), Damian Kilpin (75 per cent), Phil Hinchliffe (74.24 per cent), Keith Gordon (73.45 per cent) and George Parr (70.31 per cent).
