New recruit Graham is man on a mission
A NEW member of staff has been employed by a Barrhead church to help build connections within the wider community.
Graham Currie is a full-time youth and community worker, with the role being funded by St Andrew’s Parish Church for at least three years.
He has lived in Barrhead for a quarter of a century and has a background in community learning and development.
Graham completed a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in Community Education in 2002 and has worked in various roles within the charitable sector.
He also served as the pastor of Hopehall Church, in Paisley, until 2021.
Graham said: “Having lived in Barrhead for over 25 years, I am delighted to be taking up this new role serving young people and the local community.
“I have already spoken to a variety of local people and agencies working hard to support the development of our young people and I’m looking for ways in which I can complement existing work and add value.
“Every young person in Barrhead has great potential and I’m excited about seeing this brought forward.
“If anyone has any ideas, please get in touch.”
Graham will be working closely with members of the local community learning and development team based in Barrhead, as well as the Reverend Tim Mineard, who is minister at St Andrew’s Parish Church.
Tim told the Barrhead News: “This is an exciting new chapter for the congregation.
“We’re thrilled to have Graham starting with us.
“This post is a concrete statement of our commitment to engage with young people and the wider community and to make the Christian faith relevant and accessible.”
An official commissioning service for Graham will be held at the church on Sunday, April 28, starting at 11am, and all are welcome to attend.
