Plea issued over jabs

- William Brown editorial@the-gazette.co.uk

HEALTH chiefs have launched their spring rollout of the Covid-19 vaccination to help protect those who are most vulnerable to the virus.

The free jab is available to all local residents who will be 75 or over on June 30, as well as anyone aged six months or over who has a weakened immune system.

It is being administered at a series of community clinics in the area, with bosses at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde ( NHSGGC) expecting to have delivered more than 10,000 doses within the first week of the rollout.

Eligible patients will receive, or will have already received, an invitation with an appointment date and time either by post, email or text.

They are being urged to ensure they have noted these appointment details and have the appropriate arrangements in place for attending their nominated community clinic.

The public health team at NHSGGC has stressed that it is important for these groups to keep up to date with Covid-19 vaccines, as levels of protection may have faded since they received their last dose.

Emilia Crighton, NHSGGC director of public health, said: “While we’re moving away from winter viruses and the weather is warming up, these groups continue to be vulnerable to Covid-19.

“If you are eligible, we urge you to ensure that you don’t miss your appointment and that you top up your protection.

“The vaccine is the best approach to keep you safe.

“If your loved ones are in these groups, it is a good idea to check in with them to see if they have their appointment in place or if they need to reschedule.

“It is also good to be aware of the community clinic location and to pre-arrange if support is needed for them to attend.”

The community clinics will be in operation until the end of June at locations such as Johnstone Town Hall, Renfrew Leisure Centre, the Lagoon Leisure Centre, in Paisley, and the Eastwood Health and Care Centre, in Clarkston.

Anyone who needs to book or rearrange an appointment can do so by calling 0800 030 8013 or visiting https://vacs.nhs.scot/csp.

To book or reschedule an appointment for a child who is aged 11 or under, call 0800 030 8013.

The health board is also rolling out a vaccination bus to certain locations to provide easier access to the service.

No appointments are required for the drop-in bus, which will be based at Neilston Leisure Centre today and the Asda store at the Phoenix Retail Park, in Paisley, tomorrow.

People are welcome to attend either location between 9am and 4pm.

More information about the spring rollout is available online at www.nhsinform.scot/springvaccine.
