AN AWARD-WINNING Barrhead author is preparing to release his latest novel.

Chris Brookmyre’s new book, The Cracked Mirror, is described as “Agatha Christie meets Michael Connelly” and is said to blend mystery and crime in a thrilling tale.

Readers will meet characters such as Penny Coyne – a sharpminded old lady who solves murders in her peaceful village – and Johnny Hawke – a Los Angeles homicide detective whose pursuit of truth often collides with his superiors.

The novel will be launched at a ‘Bookface Sip & Swap’ event at the August House cocktail bar, in Mitchell Street, Glasgow, on Saturday, July 27, from 1.30pm until 4.30pm.

Those who go along will be able to help Chris celebrate his 25-year career, as well as hear him being interviewed about his work by presenter Heather Suttie.

Chris, who was brought up in the Auchenback area of Barrhead and is a former pupil of St Luke’s High, said: “Bookface Sip & Swaps have rapidly become one of my favourite events on the promotional calendar.

“It’s a privilege to spend time in a lively and convivial atmosphere, chatting to dozens of people united by their passion for books.”

A spokesperson for the organisers added: “Join us for a bookish afternoon at August House, where you can meet the amazing author Chris Brookmyre in person as we celebrate the launch of his latest novel The Cracked Mirror.

“Bring along two to four books to recycle in our sustainable book swap with fellow book lovers while enjoying sips from the bar.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to discover new reads and connect with like-minded individuals.

“Chris’s illustrious career spans over 25 years and guests will enjoy a 45-minute interview about his latest release.

“With its cross-genre allure akin to Agatha Christie meets Michael Connelly, The Cracked Mirror promises to be the most imaginative and entertaining crime story of the year, offering readers a thrilling rollercoaster ride of emotions and revelations.

“You’ll be able to buy a copy of Chris’s new novel on the day.”

Tickets for the launch event cost £20, which includes two drinks, and can be booked online at https://shorturl.at/doBDE.

The Cracked Mirror will be published in hardback on Monday, July 15, and costs £22. It can be pre-ordered online through book retailers such as Waterstones.
