"T here’s a song called ‘Reason’ on this album which is interesting. The bass-line was originally recorded here at my house in Florida. I sent to it to Wailers drummer, Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett Jr, and he added the drums – because I’d recorded to a click track – and we built the song from there. I’m very faithful to my Conklin bass and have been playing it for the last 22 years. The last time I changed my strings was 18 years ago. Really and truly! It’s a cheaper one, made abroad: I have a US model too, but I love the imported one. I bought my first Conklin when I was really young, so when it was time to look for endorsements, it made sense to go with them. Akae Beka passed away last year: he and I were very close and did a lot of work together. He was a prominent figure in reggae music.”
