Snoop Lion Reincarnated (2013)

"Now, on this album I didn’t actually play the bass. We wrote a rhythm track for one of the songs, ‘So Long’, and Snoop [Dogg, aka Lion on this album] heard it when one of my colleagues in our collective, Moon, worked on the album and played it to him. He loved it, but we had already released a song that used the same rhythm track. Snoop was deterred by this, but he loved it so much that he insisted on using it, so he hired Stewart Copeland of the Police to reproduce it. I don’t wish to disrespect Stewart, but when he transposed the track it just didn’t have the same feel. It was composed the same way, it just lost the groove. The pocket ended up in a different place to the original, and I felt like it lost a whole lot in the translation. The song itself was okay, and in fact it was nominated for a Grammy that year, which was really nice – but it wasn’t my proudest moment.”
