Team Bath International High-performance Tennis Academy player Luke Johnson and University of Bath sporting scholar Ben Jones were on opposite sides of the net when they contested the AIG Irish Open Tennis Championship men’s doubles final in Dublin. World University Games silvermedallist Johnson, coached by Ian Macdonald and Dave Sammel, claimed his fourth ITF Futures doubles title as he partnered France’s Hugo Voljacques to a hard-fought 7-6(6) 6-4 victory over Jones and fellow Brit Joshua Paris. It was the first experience of an ITF Futures final for Jones, a chemistry undergraduate supported by a Buchan Jones sports scholarship and coached by Craig Proctor. Barry Scollo, Director of Tennis at Team Bath, said: “Both Luke and Ben have worked hard this season and are gaining the rewards. It was great to see Ben in his first final at this level.” Visit www.teambath.com/tennis to find out more about the tennis programme at the university.
