You will soon be able to go see a film on the big screen in Bath after months of lockdown.

Bath’s three cinemas have shared when they will be reopening, in light of PM Boris Johnson’s relaxing of coronavirus restrictions.

The Odeon chain is gradually reopening from July 4 - but Bathonians will have to wait until Thursday, July 16.

Bath manager Rebecca Austin said: “We are delighted to announce this Odeon will reopen its doors from July 16, and you can book tickets now.

“We have made lots of changes to create a new safer cinema experience for you, and we look forward to welcoming you back.”

Tickets are now on sale for big screen classics including 1917 and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, re-released in 4k for its 40th anniversary, Sonic the Hedgehog and Onwards , Little Women, Bad Boys for Life, Dirty Dancing and The Greatest Showman.

Film fans will have to wait a little longer to visit The Little Theatre in Bath. Operator Picturehouse Cinemas had initially said it would be reopening from July 10, but has pushed this back to July 31.

It said the decision was made following the announcement that Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Tenet has been postponed by two weeks, along with other significant changes to the UK film calendar, including Alice Winocour’s Proxima and Disney’s Mulan.

With the on-going pandemic, this new date remains subject to final confirmation.

Bath’s boutique cinema Tivoli does not yet have a date for reopening - remaining closed until further notice. But the team say they are working hard towards reopening.

Justin Ribbons, CEO of Tivoli, said: “The safety and well being of our customers and staff remains our top priority which is why we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure cinema going can be as enjoyable as it’s always been.

“Tivoli will be putting in place a range of measures when we reopen to ensure social distancing can be observed.

“The new measures will range from clear signage throughout the venue, hand sanitiser stations and plastic screens at till points, enhanced cleaning regimes along with reduced seating capacities to allow households/bubbles to sit together while keeping a safe distance from other customers.

“Film times will also be staggered in order to reduce customers having to cross paths as they leave the cinema with those going in for the next showing.

“We look forward to welcome customers back soon.”
