Repairs battle after claim van damaged wall

-

A Bath man who claims a Fedex lorry damaged his gate and gate posts after making a delivery has reported the matter to police.

Neil Stanley, of Sham Castle Lane, says he’s unhappy with how the company has responded to his initial compliant that a lorry caused the damage while delivering to his home , claiming he received an “aggressive” email from a law company.

He said he was working from home when he heard a loud bang and found a delivery truck in his driveway. Pictures taken by Mr Stanley show a damaged wall and a Fedex truck beside it. The 56-year-old claims the driver refused to give his name and was rude towards him.

After complaining to Fedex, Mr Stanley said he was contacted by a legal firm which he said he found “aggressive” and has now reported the matter to police.

The police say they are reviewing Mr Stanley’s report and Fedex says it will co-operate fully with the relevant authorities.

Mr Stanley said: “I have lived here for eight years, I work from home, and regularly have deliveries here. Larger vehicles usually park in the road and then wheel the item on a trolley.

“This Fedex delivery driver thought he could get his ridiculously large truck through but he ended up ramming the wall. I went running up the drive after hearing the loud bang.

“The driver refused to give his name... and he was also very surly and rude,” Mr Stanley claimed.

Mr Stanley added: “I immediately called Fedex who were very nice and warm and fuzzy but they called me some days later and I got an aggressive email from a company I assumed Fedex gave my details to.”

Mr Stanley said the incident took place on June 11 and he reported it to the police on June 23 after receiving the e-mail.

He claimed the cost of repairs may exceed £1,000.

“Fedex were superficially sympathetic at first but refused to admit liability,” he said.

“They then sent a very aggressive law firm to deal with me demanding I prove the incident actually happened with CCTV footage and witnesses.

“They said if I did this they would then ‘Upon receipt of the evidence, we will provide our final stance on liability and how the case will proceed.’

“So basically they are denying anything happened and putting the onus on me to prove it did.”

A Fedex spokeswoman said: “As this is an ongoing case, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further, but we will naturally co-operate fully with the relevant authorities.”

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman added: “We’ve received a report about this incident and it is in the process of being reviewed.”
