Lockdown fails to derail youth charity

-

A charity which works with young people in BANES has kept up its important work despite the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Youth Connect has had to adapt but has kept in regular touch with young people through detached youth work in parks and other places young people gather, working to keep them safe and also support local communities.

This includes working with young people gathering in the Royal Victoria Park and the Crescent, supported by drug and alcohol charity Project 28.

Youth Connect has also been operating regular Zoom youth clubs and has delivered art and cooking activities online. This work has been funded in part by Paulton Parish Council, Westfield Parish Council, Timsbury Parish Council and Radstock Parish Council.

A grant from Quartet enabled Youth Connect to supply more than 20 young people with laptops and tablets to help them complete their schoolwork and keep in touch with friends and family something that is increasingly important as lockdown has affected mental health.

Youth Connect has also joined up with Wessex Water to provide 33 meals a day to families who are shielding.
