Clubs able to apply for fund from R&A

-

England Golf are inviting applications from all affiliated clubs and facilities to the R&A’S COVID-19 Support Fund.

In agreement with The R&A a sum of £2,555,000 has been made available to clubs in England hit hard by the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic. Each club/facility may apply for a grant of up to £10,000.

The idea behind the fund and how to apply was outlined in a letter sent to all affiliated clubs and facilities by England Golf CEO Jeremy Tomlinson.

The letter reads: “May I take this opportunity to thank The R&A for supporting the club and amateur game through this fund and you, the clubs, for all your efforts over the past few difficult months.

“The spirit of community, dedication to the game, a willingness to find solutions in unprecedented times and your support of England Golf’s notes of guidance have been crucial to golf playing a prominent role in the nation’s sporting recovery.

“The purpose of the fund is to provide short-term financial support to clubs and facilities as they develop a resilient business strategy and then plan for future sustainability.

“Our aim will be to support as many applications as possible with consideration given to those applicants who have a clear financial need and can outline an ongoing impact from grants received.”

The fund has been welcomed as a means to help clubs build for a brighter future. Club’s and facilities applying to the fund will be asked to commit to England Golf’s policies on safeguarding and equality and have until 4pm on July 31 to apply.

Clubs will discover the outcome of applications from the week commencing August 24 and monies will start to be distributed in September.

■ BATH Golf Club held a stableford last weekend, open to all members. It was a fine, warm weekend and the previous week’s rain meant the course was looking and playing well with receptive, true greens. As a result scoring was excellent over the weekend.

Division One was won by Alan Kerrison with an outstanding score of 47 points, second with 42 was Liam O’mara with Martin Cashnella third on 41 and Richard Mccabe fourth on countback. The winner of Division Two was Gary Mcardle on 43, with Graham Feltham second on 41. Third on 40 was Tim Sefton with Terry Paterson fourth on 39.

Division Three was won by James Young on 44, with Flora Samiei second on 43, Richard Harvey third on countback and Ned Burn fourth on 42.

With so many players playing well below their handicaps in the calm conditions, several handicap reductions were made with Alan Kerrison and Richard Harvey losing two shots and James Young three shots.

Bath Golf Club is also pleased to announce that, following the lifting of restrictions nationally, visiting golfers are now able to play the course and use the full range of facilities available.

A warm welcome awaits all visitors and members alike and the clubhouse is now fully open for drinks and snacks with social distancing and a rigorous cleaning regime in place to keep all users safe.

The professional shop is fully open and staff are busy giving lessons and providing support to all golfers. Please contact the club to arrange lessons and/or book tee times as required.
