Brewery opts to reopen its pubs in stages

Butcombe Brewing Co. has announced the staggered re-opening dates for the pubs it manages across Bath, Somerset and the surroundin­g area.

The Swan at Rowberrow near Winscombe in the Mendip Hills and The Methuen Arms in Corsham re-opened on July 8.

The Bath city centre pub the Pig & Fiddle and the Broad Street Townhouse boutique hotel reopened on Monday, July 20. The Quarryman’s Arms on Box Hill reopened yesterday.

On Monday, July 27, The Lime Kiln in Long Sutton will reopen, followed on Monday, August 3, by The Pelican in Chew Magna.

Jayson Perfect, managing director of Butcombe Pubs and Inns said: “It’s a great feeling to finally be able to open our pubs after such a long time. We’ve been busy making sure our team members and customers are happy and comfortabl­e with the new procedures we’ve put in place to keep them safe.

“We look forward to seeing customers old and new - they can be sure of a warm welcome in an authentic pub environmen­t.”

Butcombe Brewing Co. has a brewery in Wrington, Bristol, and a distributi­on and bottling plant in Bridgwater, Somerset. Across the

South West, it manages 19 pubs and has 20 tenanted pubs, many of which are in Bath and Somerset.

Meanwhile, popular tap bar company Brewed Boy will be reopening three locations in Somerset and Dorset this week for the first time following the lockdown.

The company has outlets in Bath, Frome and Sherborne which will all be re-opened.

The tap bars, which specialise in craft beers and ciders, will all be reopened on reduced hours for the foreseeabl­e future, only opening from Thursday to Saturday, with the Sherborne bar only opening on Friday and Saturday. The company, owned by George White, opened its location in Frome in 2017, followed by the bar in Bath opening in July 2018 and Sherborne after that.

The company posted on social media to confirm the bars would be enforcing social distancing measures and accepting card payments only, while announcing it will also be continuing its takeaway beer and home delivery services. The post said: “Since March we’ve been so grateful for all of your support from home delivery customers.”
