Musicians offering concerts on doorstep

-

TWO talented musicians from Bath are bringing beautiful music to people who are feeling isolated because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Lucy Hewson and Rebecca Prosser are classical musicians with a passion for sharing music. Rebecca is one of the UK’S top recorder players and has toured all over Europe and the Far East as a soloist and with an orchestra.

Rebecca, who has also featured on numerous film and TV soundtracks, also plays the violin and piano.

Violinist and occasional viola player Lucy has played in a recording studio with Robbie Williams and toured the US with an opera.

The two musicians regularly play at Bath’s Peggy Dodd Centre for the benefit of dementia sufferers and have given recitals for Celebrating Age Wiltshire.

With concerts cancelled and music venues shut, the duo have switched their attention to offering music where it is needed most – at the homes of those shielding or staying away from crowds and shops.

Rebecca and Lucy are offering a “Concert on Your Doorstep”, which could be at a private residence, a care home, nursing home, sheltered or social housing. Audiences can listen through an open window or door, in a garden or drive, all at a safe distance.

Since the middle of June they have played 24 socially distanced concerts, entertaining more than 250 people.

All they need is good weather and an outdoor space safe enough for them to be off roads or public paths with enough space to be two metres distant from each other and their audience.

Although they are offering the service for free, they would appreciate donations, especially from care homes or other establishments.
