Recycling centre’s back in operation

Bath Recycling Centre has reopen after four months of closure - but only for two days a week.

The majority of recycling centres in the area have already fully reopened, and until now Bath locals have been forced to travel to Keynsham or Midsomer Norton to dispose of their waste.

But the Midland Road facility reopened on Saturday on an appointment-only basis, Bath and North East Somerset Council has said. It has also been confirmed that the centre will initially only open on Saturdays and Sundays due to staffing issues, but the council aims to return to a seven day-aweek service shortly.

Councillor David Wood, joint cabinet member for climate emergency and neighbourhood services, said: “The appointment system at Old Welton has already proved successful and it’s a system that is needed at the small Midland Road site so we can avoid traffic congestion and make sure there’s enough room for social distancing.

“The site will return to its normal weekend hours for now, but we will aim to bring back a seven-day-a week service after two weeks.

“In the meantime, extended operating hours are still in operation at the Keynsham site and weekday appointments can also be booked at Old Welton.”

Bath Recycling Centre’s weekend opening hours are: Saturday, 9am 3.45pm and Sunday, 9am - 1pm. Residents will be able to select a day and a time slot by visiting https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/bathrecycling-centre
