Johnson helps to Give Back
Bath’s Liz Johnson was one of nine award winners recognised for their efforts in transforming the lives of others through sport at the inaugural Sport Gives Back Awards.
Broadcast on ITV on Tuesday, the awards were filmed at the Royal Institution in London’s Mayfair and Johnson was awarded the More Than Medals Athlete Award from the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
Over the last 12 months, Johnson has delivered programmes in multiple locations, including England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has gone above and beyond in her commitment to the young people she has worked with.
Her work has improved young people’s wellbeing to above national average, has helped unite communities in Belfast and improved the confidence of young people she’s worked with, helping them to move into employment, education or training.
The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust is a UK youth sports charity that supports 11-25 year-olds facing disadvantage in education and the community. That is done through training and developing world class athletes to deliver personal, social and emotional development programmes, enabling every young person to develop the confidence, resilience and self-esteem to succeed in life.
During the broadcast, Lord Sebastian Coe, Dame Kelly Holmes and Daley Thompson CBE spoke about their own experiences of the transformative nature of sport.
Sporting luminaries Lee Dixon, Jason Robinson, Greg Rusedski and Olympic hockey champion Crista Cullen MBE also lent their support to the event.
