Leading Kings hold on to win

- Mark Payne-blackmore sport@bathchron.co.uk

Before an imminent four-week break from any action for grassroots leagues around the country, the Bath & District Sunday League was able to see some action on Sunday despite the weather at the weekend.

Heritage United hosted league leaders Kingsmead and gave them a good run for their money but it wasn’t enough in the end as vital finishes from Ifill and Wych kept the Kings flying high and marching on into the time off with a 2-1 win.

Batheaston were the visitors to BAS and it proved to be a good day for the travelling sides in this division. Batheaston picked up only their third win of the season, 3-1, and jumped to fourth in the league while BAS dropped to sixth.

The second tier was, as always, very unpredictable and crammed full of entertainment. Lansdown hosted Trinity in first versus third and a strike from Sam Mason had the travelling team in high spirits, only for Craig Rogers to equalise for the leaders to earn a draw.

Second-placed Team

Nathan had the chance to go top in their eighth fixture of the campaign, the most anyone has played in the division, hosting Odd Down SC Reserves. They must have thought it was their day when first Stefan Woods opened the scoring with a clever finish and then Gary Jones, with an overhead kick, saw Nathan 2-0 up but it wasn’t enough.

Down didn’t have many chances but the ones they did they dug deep and took advantage of; first Jozef Wolan followed by Josh Davis had these teams 2-2 at the break and with no goals in the second period it finished level.

FC Gringos kept themselves fourth and stopped the division being full of draws, in a five against Griffin winning 3-2.

The third division started with a ten-goal match as bottom side Welton Rangers faced leaders Colchoneros, who demolished the strugglers 8-2 with goals from Rhys Cook (5), Corbin (2) and Gibbs (1) to go two points clear before the break.

Bear Flat and Farrington were the only home winners of the weekend, beating Two Weir Town 2-1 and Puckle Vale 4-0 respectively.
