Delight to live near this friendly hotel

Re: “Hotel in row over noise to keep licence” - page 8, Bath Chronicle, December 31, 2020.

In light of complaints by one neighbour against The Bird, I wish to make several points.

I live near The Bird and am delighted to have such a friendly and welcoming venue in my neighbourhood.

I have dined there on four different occasions, recently with family and friends, in both indoor and outdoor areas (as permitted by Covid regulations) and have recommended it to other friends and neighbours.

I think the wonderful winter grotto outside has provided a safe and beautiful oasis during a very difficult time for us all.

At all times, I found the staff to be professional, caring and observant of the ever-changing Covid guidelines. At a time when many local businesses have struggled, I think we all need to do our best to support local hostelries and shops to keep them viable.

Mr Dyer’s complaints about noise starting at 10am seem crotchety at best. He states that he has lived at his address since 1995 so it should come as no surprise to him that he lives next door to a hotel and restaurant.

He claims that it affects enjoyment of his home where he offers ‘self-catering accommodation’.

Mr Dyer’s self-catering accommodation will almost certainly be for guests from out of town whilst many of The Bird’s restaurant and outdoor dining area guests will be local, like me.

As a result, I suggest a visit next door to meet the local community who are keen to keep Bath a vibrant and hospitable place to live not just a scenic weekend destination for tourists. My family and I are delighted to have such a wonderful venue in our neighbourhood. Laurie Hale
