Wilson signs for league leaders Sutton on loan
Donovan Wilson has joined Sutton United on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
Following Tom Smith’s move to Dagenham & Redbridge a week earlier in a similar arrangement, the forward will play at the level above Bath City until May for a Sutton side pushing for a first ever promotion to the Football League.
Wilson made his debut as a substitute in a 0-0 draw with Wrexham on Saturday in front of the BT Sports cameras, and followed it up with an assist in a 17-minute cameo in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Yeovil, which sent the U’s to the top of the National League.
Manager Jerry Gill said: “This loan move for Donovan is a wonderful opportunity for him to go and play games for a club that is not only challenging for promotion to the EFL but at a club and with a manager that fits well in terms of style of play and philosophy, which is important for both us and Donovan.
“I will be attending as many of his games as I can, so I can continue to monitor Donovan’s performances.
“A big thank you goes to Matt Gray [Sutton United manager] in how professional he has been throughout the negotiation of this loan deal. Again, it is another example of a Bath City player in good form being recognised and attracting interest from clubs at a higher level.
“All of us at Bath City FC wish Donovan all the very best and look forward to seeing him back in a Romans shirt next season.”
Wilson signed on a two-year contract last summer but missed the first five games of the season through a groin strain picked up in a pre-season win at Swindon Supermarine.
On returning he chipped in with six goals in nine appearances, standing out as one of Bath’s best performers this season.
