Planning application granted with conditions

-

Corsham Cricket Club’s planning application for their clubhouse redevelopment project has been granted by the Wiltshire Planning Office.

The grant has come with some conditions with regards to operational management plans and noise control which the committee is working through, but they are confident that the permission will allow the club to deliver to its members the exciting modern project everybody has been so invigorated by since its first started to come to life 18 months ago.

On the club’s website, written by John Gale, director of cricket and clubhouse redevelopment team member Peter Dennett said: “Whilst this is only one step in a long road, it feels like a hugely significant one for the club, and really does bring those exciting images and videos we have all been watching over the winter a little closer to life.

“We know there is lots of hard work ahead but this, along with an exciting summer of cricket just round the corner, really does give the redevelopment team an additional spring in their step.”

The club has thanked Dan Collier and the team at Lynea Architects for their hard-work and looking to further developing the detailed technical drawings to deliver the project in time for the club’s 175th anniversary in the summer of 2022.

To help complete the project, the club will be looking to secure as much funding as possible with a number of fund-raising activities planned, including a team from the club undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge in July and a number of the squad running a half-marathon.

Ten-year-old academy member Henry Dummott is also looking to complete a sponsored Bowlathon and raise £1,500 over the Easter holidays, for more information visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ philippa-mayo-10.

Corsham will also be looking to defend their Wiltshire League T20 crown after the league announced the launce of the 2021 Wiltshire Wallop.

Entries are now being taken for the competition which will see localised groups of four or five teams and cup and plate finals days in order to become Wiltshire’s premier T20 team. The competition will run between May-august with group matches played during a selected fortnight. Each team will play each other at least once and the proposed Finals Day is currently scheduled for August 15.

Corsham were the winners last year after beating Shrewton by 24 runs for their third Wallop trophy, but first since 2017.

■ THE STAR CC have raised nearly £4,500 for Bath Mind after participants took part in a Bath Lap Charity Run on Sunday. 44 participants pledged to run or walk 743km between them on Sunday, finishing their attempts at The Star Inn.

The club wanted to emphasise the importance of checking in with each other and getting out and about to improve mental health. Bath Mind’s mental health support services have been more critical than ever during a year of national lockdowns and disruption to the Coronavirus pandemic and they urgently need funds to enable them to meet the increasing demand. ■ MARSHFIELD CC are hoping that when lockdown restrictions lift on Monday, groups of up to six people can help volunteer their services for the big club tidy ahead of the new season.

Tasks to help the club include pavilion and bar tidy, erecting a barrier fence to prevent balls going into the sheep field, clear out the changing rooms and clean showers, purchase new slats and clean existing sight screens, sort out the junior kit and pressure washing the score cabin.

To get involved, contact Andy Pierce via the telephone numbers located on the club’s website.
