No new Covid-19 deaths reported across Somerset

There have been fewer than 20 new positive coronaviru­s test results in the county, the latest government statistics reveal.

NHS data reveals 18 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the most recent 24 hours of recorded data released on Tuesday.

Five of those positive test results were recorded in North Somerset, while four were in South Somerset. Bath and North East Somerset recorded three cases and Mendip and Sedgemoor reported two each.

No further deaths in people who had contracted coronaviru­s in the previous 28 days have been recorded in Somerset.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is as follows, with new positive test results in brackets:

Bath and North East Somerset: 8,183 (three new cases) Mendip: 3,425 (two new cases) North Somerset: 9,993 (five new cases) Sedgemoor: 5,318 (two new cases) Somerset West and Taunton: 5,933 (two new cases)

South Somerset: 5,412 (four new cases)

The Government said nationally a further 23 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 127,123. The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 2,472 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,375,814. The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area of Somerset since the pandemic began is as follows, with new deaths in brackets. Statistics can be adjusted at a later date:
