Big performances see duo progress in Vase

-

Bradford Town have booked their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase after seeing off Wincanton Town 3-0.

George Box headed home from a corner to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead at half-time. Bradford’s task was made harder though when Charlie Wiles-richards was sent off, but they managed to double their lead through Jake Brown with a sublime strike into the corner.

Tyson Pollard added the third to see Bradford through to face another Western League Division One side and local rivals Odd Down in the second qualifying round on September 25.

Joining them are Corsham Town after they edged out Wessex League Division One side Folland Sports. After an even first half, Corsham made it through with an 88th minute winner from Tom Stocks with a back post header to set up a second qualifying round tie at home to Wessex Premier League side Hamworthy United.

After Dean Griffiths helped the visitors make a blistering start, their second-minute lead soon evaporated when brothers Miles and Jake Quick both struck for Wellington to make it 2-1.

A strong finish from Ben Withey levelled the scores ten minutes into the second half, and it was then left to Griffiths to complete the turnaround, scoring his second of the afternoon 15 minutes from time.

The Cornish side dominated the opening 45 minutes, finding themselves 4-1 up at the interval thanks to goals from Billy Tucker, Ryan Turner, Tyler Elliot and Josh Storey. The K’s kept themselves in the game, and despite going 5-2 down early in the second half, they scored three unanswered goals in the closing stages through Will Hailston, Sam Jones and Adey Harvey to snatch a share of the points.

On an afternoon where their indiscipline could have cost them, the home side had Luke Bryan to thank for much of their victory, with the sharpshooter scoring twice inside the opening 20 minutes. Raphael Waugh then added a third for the Bath outfit, before Bryan converted a penalty in stoppage time to make it 4-0 at the break.

Shaq Perkins added a fifth midway through the second half, with the Rocks scoring twice against nine men to add a little bit of respectability to the scoreline.

■ HELLENIC LEAGUE Following their FA Vase escapades, both Corsham Town and Bradford Town returned to league action on Tuesday night. Corsham hosted Hallen and produced a five-goal thriller which just about managed to edge.

Cam Allen’s corner was converted by Stocks to score a second goal in as many games to give Corsham the lead. Matt Swan then made it 2-0 with a perfect top corner free-kick from 20 yards to leave them in control at the break.

Hallen managed to pull a goal back after the restart, but Corsham restored their two-goal lead via Gary Higdon to stem the Hallen flow. Hallen were able to reduce the deficit once more but Corsham held on for victory.

Bradford had to survive a miniwobble to bring back all three points from Lydney Town. Jake Brown scored twice in the first half to put Bradford 2-0 ahead before Ross Lye added a third via a Brown assist and Brown then completed his hat-trick to put the Bobcats 4-0 up.

Lydney though managed to get two goals back to set up a slightly nervier finish than expected, but Bradford held onto the win.
