HOTEL OF THE WEEK

- ■ Words by MOLLY DOWRICK

WHERE AND WHY

Located in the heart of Manchester on Peter Street, The Midland is the perfect place to stay to explore the city.

The iconic Grade II listed, fourstar hotel has been welcoming guests since 1903 and oozes elegance and charm with its Art Deco features in the main lobby.

Our room was equally beautiful, while champagne and rose petals on the king-size bed made our stay feel extra special.

ON THE MENU

The hotel has two restaurants, Mount Street Dining Room and Bar, and The French. There’s also The Tea Room and a lounge.

We dined at Mount Street. The Art Deco dining room feels fresh and modern yet inviting, while the menu focuses on great local ingredients taken to a new level of taste and appearance.

All the food was incredible. From the delicious spring green quinoa risotto and poached quail breast for our starters, to the ribeye steak and grilled hake lobster for mains.

Starters from £6.50, mains from £14.50 and desserts from £6.50. There’s also an extensive wine and cocktail list.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

The hotel’s Rena Spa is a must for anyone wanting to unwind and relax during their stay. With treatments, heated relaxation pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub, it really is a sanctuary.

Manchester Art Gallery and Piccadilly Gardens are nearby as is the Arndale shopping centre and the Northern Quarter.

Theatres, restaurants, and cocktail bars are dotted around the neighbouring streets.
