Plenty of action in county cup

- Mark Payne-blackmore sport@bathchron.co.uk

With lots of County Cup featuring many BDFL clubs this weekend, there were only three league games to speak of and none in the top tier.

Olympic Victoria ran riot in Division Two. A brace from Harry Drew was bettered by Moia Chemos and Prates Pereira as they beat Griffin 4-0.

Division Three had two fixtures and they didn’t disappoint. A tight encounter saw Two Weir Town welcome Keynsham Rangers, still in search for their first win. A single goal from Allen for the hosts gave Town all three points.

A newly formed Team Nathan Reserves had their first outing against high flying Puckle Vale, who absolutely hammered their hosts.

Goals from Densley (4), Bayliss, Hanham, Langdon, Young, Shaw and an own goal from player-manager Brad Blackmore completed the ten goal drubbing, rubbing salt in the wounds along with brother Mark Payne-blackmore getting sinbinned for the first time in four seasons, showing his frustration as he stepped in from the firsts to help.

An excellent free-kick from Maslen was mere consolation as Vale continue to dominate the league.

Nine BDFL teams took part in the Somerset Sunday Challenge Cup. Batheaston were narrowly beaten 2-1 at The Robins, while Farrington Albion lost 5-3 to Bristol Jaguars. Lansdown advanced to the next round by a walkover as Berrow couldn’t field a team.

Bear Flat ran riot over their visiting opposition Sedgemoor United. Four goals from Stevens was improved by four from Basson while Hunnybun, James, Jenkins, Davies and Castignetti made it 13 to Sedgemoor’s two. Meanwhile, Lansdown Reserves travelled to former finalists Cutters Friday and although Hutchinson scored, Lansdown lost 5-2.

Gringo’s went through due to another away walkover against Bruton United Junior Colts. Dunkerton welcomed, dominated and beat Taunton Eagles 3-1, while Bath United travelled to Castle Cary Veterans and it was 3-3 until late on before United saw a player sinbinned for last ten minutes and they conceded to lose 4-3. Trinity beat Woolavington 2-1.
