Michaela’s style leads way in feast of fashion
After a prolonged fashion draught, when this column frequently featured hideous and now hopefully never-tobe-used-again words such as loungewear and “waist-up” dressing, suddenly I can’t quite manage the virtual landslide of fashionrelated content coming my way.
Not only are celebrities on the move again, with awards and the various Pr juggernauts back up and running, fashion Weeks are back with a bang. this, in turn, means street style is too, and that’s before I have even managed to digest the actual collections.
It’s all very exciting. But to give you the lowdown on everything would require me to write this column on a daily basis.
I thought the best course of action was to pick some highlights. the stuff I think you need to seek out right now for a multitude of reasons, whether it be funny, inspiring, beautiful or just downright ridiculous (yes, Kim Kardashian in a full face and body stocking on the red carpet at the Met Gala – I’m looking at you).
As for the fashion Weeks, they can wait. the shows
Michaela Coel held in September are for spring/summer, and the earliest we will be reaching for those trends will be March 2022.
In the coming weeks, I will pull out the best bits from each of the International fashion Weeks, street style trends you can recreate now and brands to watch out for (affordable ones, I promise).
On the aforementioned inspiring and beautiful front, allow me to point you in the direction of Michaela Coel, who this week took home the emmy for writing drama series I May Destroy You.
If you haven’t already seen it, go watch it. It is one of the most extraordinary things I have ever seen on television.
Can we take a minute to appreciate Michaela’s style? I don’t know of anyone else who could have pulled off the neon Christopher John rogers two-piece she wore to collect her award. But it doesn’t stop there: the black cropped jacket and tuxedo trousers she rocked at the pre-emmy party, the white caped suit worn at the emmy afterparty... the list goes on. Oh, and a special mention for her incredible sculpted arms. Yep, I am a
big fan.
