Buccs still searching for first win this season

Team Bath Buccaneers are still searching for their first win of the Men’s Hockey League Division One South season after falling to a 3-1 defeat against Southgate. In contrast, the women are unbeaten in their opening two games in the Vitality Women’s Conference West after drawing 1-1 at Cheltenham.

In the Area West men’s leagues, Buccs 2nd were unable to follow up their opening day victory and fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Whitchurch in the Premier Division. The Thirds recovered from their opening day defeat by running out 4-0 winners at Marlboroug­h in Division One North. City of Bath made it two wins from two after edging out Gloucester City in a seven-goal thriller.

City of Bath 2nd scored twice for a second game but fell to a second defeat in Division Two East as they were routed 7-2 by visiting Royal Wootton Bassett. Buccs 4th also suffered their second defeat, 4-2 at Lansdown, while Buccs 5th followed up their opening day defeat with a 5-4 victory against Chippenham 2nd.

Keynsham were 6-0 winners on the opening day in Concorde Division One, and only did marginally worse on Saturday with a 6-1 thrashing of Old Bristolian­s to make a storming start to the campaign. Buccs 6th also made it two wins from two, edging out Old Bristolian­s 2nd 3-2.

City of Bath 4th were much improved but fell to a second defeat, losing 5-3 at home to North Somerset 2nd.

In Division Two, Keynsham 2nd suffered a second defeat, this time losing 5-3 against Westbury & United Banks.

It was the same story for City of Bath 3rd in Saxon Division One after they were beaten 4-0 at Chippenham 3rd, while Corsham recovered from their opening day defeat with a 7-0 thrashing over West Wilts 2nd. Buccs 7th were beaten 6-2 by Swindon 2nd.

Buccs 8th continued their unbeaten start in Saxon Division Two by beating Marlboroug­h 3rd 5-0 after drawing their opener. Corsham 2nd were unable to build on their first win and fell to a 4-0 defeat at Swindon 3rd.

As for the women’s leagues, Buccs 2nd made it two wins from two with a convincing 7-0 thrashing of Gloucester City 2nd. In Division Two East, Corsham improved on their opening defeat with a 1-1 draw at Devizes, while Buccs 3rd lost 3-1 at Marlboroug­h having won their first match.

Keynsham also made it two from two in Berkeley Division One with a 4-2 victory at Dursley. The Thirds beat Wick 3rd 3-1 in Division Three to maintain an unbeaten start following their goalless opener. The City of Bath derby in Whitehorse Division One was rather one-sided as the Firsts ran out 6-0 winners over the Seconds.

Buccs 4th made it two wins from two by thrashing Keynsham 2nd 6-1 as Keynsham fell to a second defeat.

Corsham recovered from their opening defeat with a 3-0 victory over Marlboroug­h 2nd in Division Two. The Buccs derby was a goalfest as the Fifths beat the Sixths 13-4 to make it 22 goals in two games.
