Ladies continue winning start

-

Following opening game wins for Bath Rugby Ladies, both the 1st XV and 2nd XV backed this up with wins again at the weekend.

The 1st XV made the trip to newly promoted Buckingham Swans in front of a sizeable crowd that was made up mostly from their large junior girls section. Bath kicked off with the strong wind behind them and looked comfortable from the off.

Strong play up front from the forwards, led by hooker Hannah Stephens and flanker Robyn Price, allowed Bath quick ball to unleash their backs. It’d didn’t take long for Bath to cross the whitewash, and this was quickly followed up by more tries off the back of exciting, enterprising play.

The half-time score was 33-0 in favour of the Blue, Black and White, but the second half was going to be much tougher playing into the breeze. This didn’t stop Bath though who scored two more tries in the second stanza, to win the game 43-7.

Seven tries scored in total by Hannah Meek (2), Emma Quarterman, Sam Macdonald, Nina Edwards, Lucy Peters and Hannah Stephens, with fly-half Sarah Holloway kicking four conversions.

The standout players were centre Meek and flanker Ellen Witt who worked tirelessly and was outstanding in the lineout.

Meanwhile at Lambridge, the 2nd XV welcomed Plymstock Albion Oaks from Devon in the club’s first home game of the season. After last week’s win the team were full of confidence and this showed, with some strong hard hits in defence, and some outstanding attacking play.

New fly-half Anya Small marshalled the team well, and centre Gwen Tibbles put in some bruising hits in defence. Prop forward Zoe Lewis made a huge impact from the bench with her physicality with and without the ball. Bath ultimately had too much for their opponents and came away with a 31-0 victory.

Bath Rugby Ladies 1st XV will play their next game at the Rec as part of a double header with the men on Sunday, October 17. Bath versus Saracens will kick off at 3pm and the ladies will then take on Supermarine at 5.20pm, with free entry for the ladies fixture. The club would like to encourage all supporters to stick around after the men’s game and show their support to the ladies.
