Club enjoys Indian summer

-

The current kind autumn weather has been welcomed at Bath Golf Club and competitions continue taking advantage of the unseasonally warm conditions.

Last week Bath ladies played in a bowmaker stableford competition with two scores to count out of teams of three.

The winners with 73 points were Janet Scilly. Samantha Robinson and Ann Keeling, just pipping the team of Jill Carter, Rosemary Paterson and Katy Pool into second with the same score. In third place were Andrea Phillips, Pippa Western and Mary Perkins on 71 points.

Last Saturday and Sunday there was a stableford competition open to everyone who enjoyed fine weather conditions all weekend once the early morning fog had receded.

The winner of division 1 with an outstanding 44 points was Andrew Cottle with Peter Fox second on 41 points and Lewis Cains third on 39 points. Division 2 was topped by Andy Akers on 41 points, just ahead of Haiquing Jiang with the same score with Anthony Booley third on 39 points. Division 3 was won by Pete Glanville on 38 points, just ahead of John O’mara on the same score with Anthony Etherington third on 37 points.

Bath seniors played in a stableford on Monday in fine warm weather using only three clubs and a putter.

The scoring was excellent and the winner of division 1 was Richard Morris with a great score of 39 points, second on 37 points was Michael Noakes with Geoff Frankcom third on 33 points. Division 2 was topped by Rod Davies with an outstanding 42 points with John O’mara second on 38 points just ahead of Neil Callaway with the same score.

Recently Bath men sent a team of eight to the finals day of the Bristol & District League Foursomes. The four competing pairs performed admirably amongst strong representation from all 17 regional clubs and Bath managed to win the title by one shot from Weston-supermare with Chipping Sodbury a close third.

On Sunday Bath men competed

in the quarter final of the Annodata Golf Club Classic at Ilfracombe in North Devon. On a tricky course the match was a tight affair and ended tied 2.5 points each and captain Kelvin Green had to continue his match into sudden death having been 4 down with 4 to play.

An unfortunate lie on the first extra hole meant defeat for the team but Kelvin, Martin Cashnella, Jim Brown, Stuart Ratcliffe and Richard Longhurst as well as those who had played in previous rounds should hold their heads high and be proud of going so far in this nationwide competition.

Bath Golf Club are pleased to

announce that Tom Hayward (deputy course manager) has been promoted to the position of course manager following a full search and recruitment process.

The position attracted a strong level of candidates having been advertised through BIGGA (British and International Golf Greenkeeping Association).

Alan’s widow Sheila very generously arranged for the players to have refreshments at the halfway house and put whisky on the bar at the end of the round – a great day all round!

The Greensomes Cup has been won by Neil Pirie and Dave Price.

The winner of the latest midweek stableford was the in-form Malcolm Payne with 42 points which put him 2 points clear of the field.
