15-mile diversion during road closure

-

A key road near Bath will close for “street works” next week, with a 15-mile diversion route planned.

Part of Devizes Road, which takes drivers from Box to Bradford-on-avon will shut for 12 days from Monday, November 22.

As a result, an 0.8-mile stretch from Henley Lane to the junction with The Old Jockey will be open to emergency vehicles only. A notice on One Network said the closure would allow “dangerous tree removal and associated works” on behalf of Wiltshire Council.

The road will be shut for 24 hours a day until Friday, December 3, when it is expected to reopen. A 15-mile diversion route has been suggested by the council and is as follows: Chapel Lane, Box; High Street, Box; London Road - Box Hill - Bath Road; A350 West Cepen Way; Shurnhold; Bath Road; Shaw Hill; Folly Lane; A365 Bath Road; Devizes Road.

This closure will not be the only one to affect Devizes Road over the next month.

From Monday, December 6, the route will be shut again for “dangerous tree removal and associated works”.

Wiltshire Council said the road was expected to reopen on Friday, December 17, but that this was dependent on weather conditions.

“Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works,” the notice on One Network said.

Part of Devizes road at Fiveways Junction will also be out of action between Tuesday, November 23 and Monday, November 29.

This is to allow work including kerbing and traffic signal pole replacement. Delays are expected.
