Lansdown come out on top

The BDFL didn’t disappoint again this weekend, with eight fixtures over the three divisions and plenty of goals.

In Division One, the two newly promoted teams met and it was the runners-up from last campaign Lansdown who beat the winners Trinity and earned their first points of the season. A brace from Rogers was increased with impressive strikes from Newell, Dennis and Lofthouse ruling out the visitors’ two for a good 5-2 win.

Bath United played hosts to sitting second Batheaston, who by the 90th minute was nicely positioned in first place on goal difference, blowing away the home side in a 9-2 victory. Matthew Curnock grabbed himself five while Benjamin scored twice and Myrie and Walsh completed the demolition job. Captain Liddiard and Noble did get consolation goals for United but it ultimately wasn’t enough.

In Division Two only two of the three games took place after positive Covid cases in the Team Nathan, a speedy recovery is wishes for all those affected.

Farrington Albion must have been thinking it was their day when a goal from Mclellan, completely against the run of play, placed them 1-0 up in the third minute. But Gringos fought back and, in the 49th minute, and it was all level when Kirkham headed the equaliser. Gringos upped the ante, scoring twice more through Carver and Bendall. Farrington’s late fight with a goal from Jenkins was not enough as this finished 3-2.

In the other game, Odd Down Reserves welcomed Griffin to the Lew Hill Memorial Ground and won 3-1.

Team Nathan Reserves enjoyed a big 7-1 win over Lansdown Reserves. An early goal for Rowlands was almost instantly equalled by Jake Taylor, only for Bean to put the hosts back ahead 2-1. Before the break Rowlands got his brace and Nathan’s third from long range, slightly assisted by the opposing keeper.

In the second half, Jayden Lee grabbed his first of the season, it stayed like that until the last ten minutes when Nathan went goal crazy. First Woods finished well before Blackmore grabbed a brace of his own.

Two draws finished the action off, first a 1-1 as Bear Flat and Two Weir cancelled one another out. Then a shock as Heritage Reserves held Puckle Vale to a 2-2 for their first loss of points this season.
