Buccs bag first points with Magpies victory

-

Goals from Ella Armstrong, Annie Wilson and Eva-rose Ferguson helped Team Bath Buccaneers to their first win of the campaign in the Vitality Women’s Hockey League Division One South.

Having lost their opening two games this season, Buccs hosted fellow winless side Harleston Magpies on Sunday and enjoyed a 3-1 victory to get themselves on the board and up to eighth.

The men’s side are still to find a win this campaign in the Men’s Hockey League.

Hosting Canterbury on Saturday, Buccs were narrowly beaten 2-1 as the visitors continued their unbeaten start to the Division One South campaign.

In the West Area Men’s League, Buccs 2nd are just one of two sides in the Premier Division to have won both of their opening two games. Visiting Taunton Vale, goals from Oakley Sparshott-thompson, Louis Bowen-rayner and White saw Buccs to a 3-0 victory.

The third team have followed suit in Division One North, also claiming back-to-back victories to begin the campaign with a narrow 2-1 success at home to Gloucester City. City of Bath recovered from their disappointing defeat on the opening weekend with a 3-1 win at Penarth, who were playing their first game of the season.

Keynsham built upon their opening day draw with a five-goal performance at home Bristol UWE. They ran out 5-1 winners to continue their unbeaten start in Division Two West.

In Division Two East, both Buccs 4th and Corsham fell to their second successive defeats. Buccs were beaten 3-1 at home to early pacesetters Lansdown, while Corsham went down 2-0 against visiting Hereford.

The Buccs derby in Saxon Division One proved rather one-sided as the fifth team thrashed the seventh side 7-1. Jan Pol Bascompte and Thomas Bates both managed braces for the fifths, while Henry Purchase, Chris Hancock and Finlay Darnton also got on the scoresheet as they made it two wins from two. Andrew Silcox scored the sevenths’ consolation while they tasted successive defeats.

City of Bath 2nd also continued their perfect start to the campaign, keeping a clean sheet in their 5-0 at home to Swindon 3rd. Keynsham 2nd were edged out in a five-goal thriller at West Wilts 2nd as they failed to capitalise on last week’s opening day victory.

Buccs 6th suffered a 7-3 defeat at Mendip 2nd as they too were unable to build on their win last week in Concorde Division One.

In Saxon Division Two, City of Bath 3rd enjoyed a 2-0 win over Cirencester 3rd to make it two wins from two. Corsham 2nd played out a goalless draw at West Wilts 3rd for their second stalemate this season, while Buccs 8th were beaten 4-1 at Swindon 4th after winning their opening game last week.

The West Area Women’s League saw Buccs 2nd suffer a 5-2 defeat at home to Lansdown in the Premier Division. Georgia Doel and Gillian Kane were on the scoresheet for Buccs, but they are one of four sides to have lost both of their opening games this season.

The third team were beaten 8-2 at home to Clifton Robinsons 3rd in Division One North. Emma Hamilton and Havana Sale scored in either half for Buccs against the early pacesetters, with Buccs unable to build on their opening day victory.

Keynsham and Buccs 4th were two of four teams to make it two wins from two in Division Two East. Keynsham were 2-0 winners at home to Marlborough, while Buccs hit visiting Cheddar for six in a 6-1 victory. Netty Pellow enjoyed a hat-trick for Buccs, alongside goals for Maclean and Vicky Messent.

Corsham recovered from last week’s opening defeat with a 4-1 at Royal Wootton Bassett. Keynsham 2nd earned their first point in Brunel Division One after playing out a goalless draw at Winscombe 2nd.

The Corsham derby in Whitehorse Division One proved rather one-sided as the seconds thrashed the thirds 7-0. The seconds have moved level with City of Bath who were beaten 4-0 at Chippenham 2nd after winning their opening game last week. Buccs 5th drew 3-3 at Swindon 2nd for a second successive draw, while the sixth side lost 7-2 at home to Devizes to remain without a point alongside Corsham 3rd.

In Whitehorse Division Two, a single goal proved enough for Buccs 7th to secure victory at Devizes 2nd and continue their perfect start to the campaign. City of Bath made a statement after last week’s defeat with a 7-1 thrashing of West Wilts 2nd.

Keynsham 3rd’s winless start to Brunel Division Three continued. Having drawn their opening game last week, Keynsham were beaten 3-1 at home to Bristol Bluebirds.
