Tregunna triumphs by point

-

The Super Stragglers Cup is an annual Stableford open to all members who have played in Lansdown Golf Club’s men’s friendly team during the season, or are previous winners of the trophy.

This year’s event was played in difficult, blustery conditions, but Bob Tregunna still managed to score 39 points to claim the trophy. He was a point clear of Javan Harris, while Richard Britton was third with 36.

Stragglers captain Paul Blackmore also awarded prizes to Steve Cox for being the Most Valuable Player, and to Richard Britton as Player of the Year for his record of playing nine, winning eight and halving one. Britton is also taking up the captaincy in 2024.

As outgoing captain, Blackmore congratulated the team for their impressive record over the past three years – winning 21 and halving six of their 35 matches played.

Another annual event is the Mixed Away Day, held this year at Stinchcombe Golf Club. The weather was fine and scores were high as husband and wife Di and Joe Garry took the trophy with 41 points, winning on countback from Rachael Scrace and David Moore.

Back at Lansdown, the Alan Laycock Texas Scramble was played on Saturday and the fine weather proalthough duced some very good scores. The winning team were Tom Spence, Matt Brooke, Ken Watson and Paul Eddleston with nett 54 (gross 63), beating David Newport, Philip Hill, Bill Rose and Malcolm Payne on countback. Third place went to Pat Jones, Ken Madden and Scott Pillinger with nett 55 (gross 59).

The ladies played their eighth round of their Running Stableford. The winner was Ali Patrick with 35 points, followed by Loraine Liebenberg. The 9-hole round was won by Viv Busby with 18 points.

■ BATH The warm autumnal weather continues to provide a great backdrop and being the traditional end of the golfing season, it was time for the Captains’ Finale.

Sam Robinson and Chris Parkin held their Bowmaker last Saturday in fine, sunny conditions and the scoring was excellent. Breakfast was provided before a shotgun start at 9.30am, with special prizes and great food and refreshments provided afterwards.

The winning team, with a great 101 points, were captain Parkin, Marion Mcbirnie, Adam Lodge and Andy Akers. They were one clear of Tom Baines, Gary Mcardle, Mary Henderson and Kevin O’gorman. Tony Jones, Richard Law, Tim Sefton and Connor Deazy were third on 98.
