Pub closes for refurbishment in aftermath of Storm Henk
A pub near Bath has announced temporary closure as flooding has “taken its toll”.
The Lock Keeper in Keynsham (inset), which is no stranger to flooding given its location along the River Avon, was affected by the heavy rainfall that Storm Henk brought.
The pub has announced that it will start the refurbishment process following damage during the floods.
A sign has been placed outside telling locals that it is just “a short farewell”, with plans to reopen in February.
One of the managers at The Lock Keeper, Luke Holloway, said: “We hope to reopen on February 22. It depends on further flooding and other issues we may come across.”
The Lock Keeper posted on its social media: “With the flood taking its toll upon The Lock Keeper, the decision has been made to start the refurb process by stripping the canvas and preparing for its metamorphosis. Thank you all for your custom and loyalty to The Lock Keeper. Keep an eye on our socials for updates and photos of the operation.”
One customer commented on the Facebook post: “We’ll miss you but can’t wait to see the new refurb.” Another added: “Hope all goes well and we’ll definitely be back after the refurb.”
The pub is no stranger to flooding and faced similar scenes this time last year.
Speaking last week before the temporary closure, general manager Thomas Tombor said: “Our car park and bottom cellar have flooded. If things do get a bit too dangerous for our customers and staff, then we will have to take a safety-first approach and close.
“This basically happens every so often when it rains due to where our pub and the river.”
