For goodness sake, listen to residents
I congratulate the BANES councillors who called in the proposed decision to make the Southlands LTN permanent.
Such a pity it was voted out. It appears to me that it is totally undemocratic for the council in general to vote against yet just ONE dogmatic councillor to be able to ignore the will of the majority, and pass her proposal and make the Southlands LTN permanent. I repeat undemocratic.
For goodness sake BANES, start listening to the residents/electorate of your area.
I also find it very difficult to believe that Weston village is now a low emissions area, bearing in mind the extra use from Southlands and use of Lansdown Lane by traffic avoiding the congestion charge in the city.
I think I am not alone in criticism of the council and many of their decisions, including the terrorist nonsense which has always been a total waste of, did I read, £33m.
The council insists the police wanted it, but this was advisory only and do the council really believe that determined terrorists wouldn’t cycle or walk into the city with a body belt, vest or rucksack stuffed with explosives?
Finally, although I have many more problems with this council, I read there is a proposal to limit the speed for the higher end of Lansdown Lane to 40mph.
How crazy is this when the 20mph limit is not enforced/monitored on Combe Park, the High Street, and rarely the lower part of Lansdown Lane where vehicles are often driven at 50-60mph and only impeded by the “pinch point” which in itself causes traffic to build up in both directions creating further emissions. It makes for a very dangerous access point for residents and visitors to the 15 retirement flats in Mount Haviland. Name and address supplied
blind eye to 104 years of pain and suffering.
We can no longer disguise colonialism as “conflict”, genocide as “war” and calls for freedom as “hate speech”.
Palestinians, like Israelis, deserve to live lives of freedom and this begins with an end to the illegal occupation of the Palestinian people for only with justice can peace be obtained.
