White horses: Sut­cliff wrote Rider of the White Horse; a white horse was a Hanove­rian badge; Uff­in­g­ton has a pre­his­toric white horse hill figure. c. Blue­birds. Vera Lynn sang about them; Blue­bird was a play by Maeter­linck; speedster Don­ald Camp­bell was killed pi­lot­ing Blue­bird in 1967. 2. Nixon’s statue of Wil­liam IV is at Green­wich. The oth­ers are in Trafal­gar Square. 3. Florence Nightin­gale. She was born in Florence and buried at East Wel­low, Hamp­shire.
