A pall of smoke rises from a V-1 flying bomb explosion in the Drury Lane area of central London on 30 June 1944. This image and other rarely seen photograph­s have recently been published in a new book from Imperial War Museums (IWM). London at War 1939–1945: A Nation’s Capital Survives draws on original material from IWM’s archive to tell the story of London during the Second World War.
