James Henry Pullen: Inmate – Inventor – Genius
Watts Gallery, Compton, Surrey Until 28 October 01483 810235 wattsgallery.org.uk
Dubbed ‘the genius of Earlswood Asylum’ by the Victorian press, James Henry Pullen used art and design as a form of creative escape from the asylums in which he was incarcerated for nearly 70 years. This exhibition displays some of his intricate creations – from fantastical vessels to a reconstruction of his fully automated figure, ‘Giant’.
