A not-so-forgotten war
Grace Huxford’s How We Forgot the Korean
War (July) revived memories of my father’s concern that, as a ‘Z Reservist’, he might be recalled to fight in Korea. I was 10 years old at the time, and the Korean War certainly made a lasting impression on me.
The war is perhaps less forgotten than the article suggests. There is a large memorial garden dedicated to it at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. It was one of the original memorial gardens when the arboretum opened to the public in 2001 and, as well as being viewed by thousands of visitors each year, has been the centre for the annual commemoration by the Korean War Veterans’ Association.
