Ocean history wins major prize
Historian David Abulafia has been awarded this year’s prestigious Wolfson History Prize for his book The Boundless Sea: A Human History of the Oceans. Abulafia is emeritus professor of Mediterranean history at the University of Cambridge, and was among six shortlisted authors vying for the award in a ceremony in June. Judges praised the book, which explores the importance of oceans through millennia of human history, for being pbrilliantly writtenq and pmagnificently ambitiousq.
