Elgar and the Hallé have a long-standing bond. The orchestra gave the premiere of the First Symphony in 1908 and music director Sir Mark Elder maintains a peerless Elgarian pedigree, formerly burnished by Sir John Barbirolli. He presides over a three-day Elgarfest that delves into Grania and Diarmid, goes ‘Beyond the Score’ of the Enigma Variations, and ends on a heavenly note with The Dream of Gerontius.
