Luxembourg launch
The Pentatone label has announced a new partnership with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and its recently-signed music director Gustavo Gimeno, formerly Claudio Abbado’s assistant at Lucerne and Mariss Jansons’s assistant at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The Luxembourg ensemble and Spanish conductor get their collaboration underway with Bruckner’s First Symphony and Four Orchestral Pieces and Shostakovich’s First Symphony paired with his Five Fragments for orchestra, out this May. A third title is in the pipeline for later this year and will also feature a major symphony alongside lesser-known pieces by the same composer.
