Sound-gate Free
Created by a team from the University of Huddersfield, this app aims to give users the opportunity to hear the sonic properties of Stonehenge and other ancient sites. Based on research by Dr Rupert Till, who has made it his mission to discover more about Stonehenge’s musical properties and purpose, the app allows users to ‘walk’ around the site at different points in the period before and after the Stonehenge structure was completed. The user can play clips of music performed on Neolithic instruments and hear how they react with the acoustic of the structure. The graphics are impressive, allowing the user to range over a large area of land around Stonehenge, and the sonic impact of the stones is clear. It would be nice to be given a little more information about the project itself and be told more about the significance of the sonic properties the app demonstrates. But overall, it’s an interesting and eye-opening project. Elinor Cooper BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE
