CARDIFF SINGER OF THE WORLD
The Welsh capital will be filled with song, as the shortlist of 20 international singers arrive for the final rounds of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. BBC Four’s coverage of the biennial contest is presented by Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny and soprano Angel Blue from the 2,000-seater St David’s Hall, where the prestigious jury – including soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff, opera director David Pountney and soprano Ailish Tynan (above) – will deliberate their verdicts.
With the Main Prize of £15,000 up for grabs, the five final competitors will be accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under Thomas Søndergård and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera under Tomá≥ Hanus. The nal four rounds of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World will be broadcast on 13-16 June, before the nal of the Song Prize (17 June) and the Main Prize (18 June). BBC Four; times tbc
