Prin­ci­pal con­duc­tor Esa-pekka Salo­nen opens the sea­son with two Si­belius sym­phonies and new works by Daníel Bjar­na­son and Anna Thor­valds­dot­tir. He also con­ducts three Mahler sym­phonies, a ma­jor new work by Un­suk Chin and Schoen­berg’s Gur­re­lieder.

12 Oct 2017 – 20 May 2018 Voices of Rev­o­lu­tion

Vladimir Ashke­nazy con­ducts five con­certs ex­plor­ing the im­pact of the Rus­sian Rev­o­lu­tion, with mu­sic by Prokofiev, Mosolov, Shostakovich and Glière. A screen­ing of Bat­tle­ship Potemkin, talks, cham­ber mu­sic and an In­sights Day com­plete the series.

5, 8 Oct 2017 Rou­vali and Hru˚ a

Meet the Phil­har­mo­nia’s new prin­ci­pal guest con­duc­tors. Santtu-ma­tias Rou­vali brings his ir­re­press­ible en­ergy to Mu­sorgsky’s Pic­tures at an Ex­hi­bi­tion, and Jakub Hru˚ a con­ducts Smetana’s Má Vlast and Dvorˇák’s Vi­o­lin Con­certo, with Hi­lary Hahn as soloist.
