Brendel on disc

In 2001, Alfred Brendel joined the Vienna Phil and Simon Rattle for a residency to celebrate the pianist’s 70th birthday. Among the works played was Schumann’s Piano Concerto – it was recorded but never released.

Until now. Live in Vienna (Decca 483 3288) sees that occasion coupled with Brendel’s 1979 performance of Brahms’s Handel Variations.
