First Night of the Proms

It’s an all-british affair at this year’s First Night, with Holst’s The Planets and Vaughan Williams’s Toward the Unknown Region taking centre stage. The evening will close with a new commission by Anna Meredith and 59 Production­s, Five Telegrams, featuring digital projection­s inspired by letters written by soldiers in 1918.

Radio 3 in Concert; 13 July, 8pm

WOMAD

Radio 3 returns to WOMAD (World Music, Arts and Dance) festival for its 19th year. Music Planet ’s Lopa Kothari and Kathryn Tickell are presenting from the Radio 3 stage, introducin­g audiences to the likes of Welsh folk, Polish punk and Ugandan multi-instrument­alists.

Wagner’s Lohengrin

Wagner’s epic Romantic opera Lohengrin returns to the Royal Opera House in a production conducted by Andris Nelsons. Wagner aficionado Klaus Florian Vogt takes on the role of Lohengrin, a character he has portrayed several times to acclaim. Opera on 3; 7 July, 5-10pm
